Gecko needs its first Finance Assistant! This is a rare opportunity to join a finance team in its infancy, as part of a very fast-growing and agile business. We are a company of 40 people, and growing, based in the UK and USA, managing 100+ clients across the globe. Reporting directly to the Head of Finance, this is a unique role with lots of opportunity for personal growth now and as we continue to expand.

About the Job

Based in our Edinburgh office you will assist the Head of Finance with the financial management of our UK head office company and US subsidiary company which will include the following:

  • Maintaining the purchase and sales ledgers
  • Banking duties including reconciliations
  • Managing credit control
  • Processing UK and US payroll and managing staff commissions (no US payroll experience is necessary)
  • Reviewing, approving and reconciling credit card expenses
  • Processing of journals, accruals and prepayments and assisting with the monthly management accounts and year-end reporting
  • Assisting with budget preparation and cash forecasting
  • Assisting with tracking our key SAAS metrics (no experience of this is necessary – we can teach you!)
  • Assisting with software and process improvements/changes ready for continued growth
  • Assisting with UK and US tax responsibilities including submission of VAT returns and US sales tax returns
  • Ad hoc help with all things finance-related!

Requirements

About you

  • Proven experience in a similar finance role is essential
  • Part qualified
  • Excel experience
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and willingness to learn and to use your own initiative to drive improvements in processes


It would be beneficial but not essential if you had experience in:

  • Experience with cloud-based accounting software would be beneficial (e.g Xero)
  • Experience working in a software-as-a-service company
